free download The Oregon Trail for iphone

The Oregon Trail remains one of the greatest -- if not the greatest -- examples of edutainment software. The classroom classic sent you westward toward the paradise of the Willamette Valley with a wagon full of supplies and a pocketful of luck. Gameloft's new iPhone edition of the game, greatly expanded from its successful mobile update, is a smart remake of the original MECC game. You must still push west, worrying about wagon repairs and disease as you mosey, but the experience has been bolstered with brand-new minigames and exceptional graphics.

When you begin the game, you must make a series of choices that affect your journey. You choose the month of your departure, the kind of wagon you wish to use, and the former career of "pa," the leader of your party. Choosing a banker, for example, means you start out with more money. The carpenter, on the other hand, is better suited at keeping the wagon in tip-top shape. Once you're all set, you start out across the country, using giant virtual buttons to control the speed of your party and access the options menu,

After you set out, you are regularly assisted by the granite-jawed wagon master. This helpful fella pops on the screen and tells you about special events, minigames, and the potential hazards that await you on the trail. He's somewhat of a rolling tutorial. He's also mildly unnecessary after just a few minutes because the game is pretty easy on normal mode, which is the default selection when you first download the game. I always operated under the assumption that reaching Oregon was an arduous, grueling journey. Gameloft's wagon train poses nowhere near the challenge as the original. You must unlock hard mode by beating the game once to really have the screws put to you out on the trail.

free download Assassin's Creed 2009 for iphone

If Assassin's Creed on the iPhone looks somewhat familiar to you, that's because it was released in 2008 on the Nintendo DS. However, the year that divides the two versions has been very kind to Altair. For a fraction of the original price of the DS game, iPhone gamers are getting a full-length adventure with significant visual and audio upgrades. So, yes, this is a port -- but this is the kind of port I could really get used to seeing.

If you were a fan of Ubisoft's ambitious Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 production, you know the set-up. An assassin named Altair is scouring the Holy Land for the means to bring down the Templar knights, an organization with sinister designs on the world in this narrative. The iPhone game serves as a prequel to the console game. Altair is in search of a specific artifact called "The Chalice," which possibly has the power to bring the ugly Crusades to an early, merciful end. But seeking this relic raises more questions than it answers, setting up the console game, which I consider to have one of the best fictions in videogames in quite some time despite its uneven game mechanics.

As Altair, you must use your stealth abilities to seek the Chalice. The rooftops, awning, and beams that stretch across the grand cities of the medieval Holy Land are your playground. Careful movement above the sandy streets will keep you out of harm's way for the most part, although occasionally you must descend to the avenues below and draw blood. Altair has a sword that can be upgraded, but there are other devices and items he uses in his quest, such as a grappling hook and bombs. Altair's signature weapon, though, is his hidden dagger that is used to silently execute enemies and not raise the alarm of dozens of guards and Templar reinforcements.

free download Terminator Salvation 2009 for iphone

You are John Connor in most of the game's missions, determined to strike a blow at the heart of Skynet. For a handful of moments, you also take the role of Marcus Wright, a new character for the movie that figures into what I am suspecting is one of the main plot twists. Each character has access to different weapons. Wright has a deadly shotgun that is great for blowing the heads off terminators at close range as well as hunting these little spider-like robots. Connor has a machine gun but can also pick up a grenade launcher and an electric pulse rifle. You use these weapons to target incoming machines.

A solid headshot is an instant kill, which results in a pleasing explosion of sparks. Some terminators are carved in half with body shots. These crawl along the ground, determined to carry out their prime directive: kill humans. You can then rush up and smash metal skulls under your boots with a satisfying crunch. Moments like these are when the game really comes to life.

free download Siberian Strike for iphone

Siberian Strike takes place in an alternate universe following the end of World War II. You chose one of three different ace pilots to fly into hostile territory over the great frozen expanses in Siberia, zeroing in on the Stalinbot headquarters. The vast majority of the game is spent in the top-down view, with you zigzagging around enemy bullets while unloading your own weapons systems. You collect power-ups that increase the potency of your cannons over time as well as special weapons like a lightning bolt laser and the arrow, which sends a brutal spread up-screen. There are screen-clearing bombs, wingman opportunities that let all three pilots join forces for a few moments, and medals that unlock additional paint jobs for the planes in future plays.

free download Crazy Tanks iPhone Game

It's so easy to describe Crazy Tanks. In fact, if you tap into the Question Mark icon on the game's main screen, a new screen would appear explaining what the game is all about. To describe the game in one sentence, it goes a little something like this - Crazy Tanks lets you drive your crazy tank by tilting your device, shoot at enemy tanks by tapping the touchscreen, collect power ups and that's it.

Scattered through various stages on the maze-like environment are power-ups, health restore, weapon upgrades and shield. There are three types of enemies you'll encounter - moving tanks and stationary turrets which you need to destroy before they blast you away into smithereens.

The game also lets you fire your tank’s missiles on a wall to have it bounced towards your targets. There are some levels where there are walls and posts in the middle that you can shoot, hoping that your tank missiles will bump towards the enemy tanks. This adds some strategy elements to the game. Although be cautious when using these walls and posts as you might hit your own tank.
Crazy Tanks Control Rating Average

There are only two types of controls employed in the game. Tilting your iPhone downwards moves your tanks forward while tilting it upward moves your tank backwards. Tilting it to left and right corresponds to the same directional movement for your tank. Aside from this, you get to use the iPhone's touch screen feature to fire at enemy tanks and turrets. Controlling your tank is pretty simple, and yet requires some accuracy at times, especially when dodging tank missiles that you fire off accidentally hitting your tank. Aside from this, the iPhone's accelerometer was well used in the controls of this game.

free download Fast & Furious for iphone

Because Fast & Furious debuts in theaters today, I'm not going to dig too deep into the story and its surprises. The main thrust of the movie is revenge and the rebuilding of trust between Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, who are still very much at odds with each other despite the ending of the first movie. The game begins with the very first scene of the film. As Diesel, you roar up next to a semi truck pulling three huge gas tankers. You must glance off the side of these tanks to break them free of the semi. It's a fast sequence designed to give you a basic introduction to the controls and mechanics. The game utilizes auto-accelerate, a hold-over from traditional mobile. You tilt your iDevice to steer. Tapping the screen hits the brakes and touching an on-screen NOS canister engages the nitrous.

Once you have these essentials down, you're pretty much all set for playing Fast & Furious. The game offers a series of different racing events, such as evasion races, tunnel runs, straight races, and GPS checkpoint rallies. These different events often recycle real estate, so you will have to approach each stage in distinctly different ways to win. This is where expanding your garage becomes so critical. Fast & Furious borrows the "pink slip" mechanic of the previous game. You must grow your stable of cars by putting pink slips on the line. Since all of the cars have different strengths, such as speed or handling, they are useful for tackling the different events. An import tuner may be fantastic for ripping through a drift race, but not necessarily ideal on a road rally. Maybe you want the pure brute force of a muscle car here.

free downlaod Heavy Mach for iPhone

You control a giant tank equipped with missiles, lasers, bombs, a howitzer and more. The game is rather simple: just tilt the device to move the tank left or right and tap the lever in the lower left of the screen to jump. To fire, just hold your finger on the part of the screen you want your tank to shoot at. You have an unlimited ammo for your default machine gun, but there are a lot of ammo replenishment crates to pick up along the way for powered-up shots, so don't be afraid to use the good stuff. Use the jump button wisely (double-tap to jump higher) to launch over incoming enemy fire, all the while blasting back at the numerous helicopters, missile launchers, tanks, and enormous boss machines that await you.

You only have one life per stage, so don't try to plow right through the game. I do wish the enemies fired a bit more often than they do, though, because they're pretty easy to destroy. Boss battles are tougher, but you usually have the needed weaponry to deal with them. Shield and health icons are both plentiful and useful. The game also saves your progress after each stage. You also earn experience points that can be used to upgrade your tanks defense, mobility, or weapons.
